Sofia Vergara as Drug Lord Griselda Blanco! Power of makeup:
The combination of fact and fiction in Netflix’s latest crime thriller in which Sofia Vergara acts as Drug Lord Griselda Blanco makes viewers wonder how much of it is created and how much is true.
About Netflix’s Griselda:
Griselda, Netflix’s fictionalized account of Griselda Blanco’s true story, presents a compelling figure: an uncompromising Colombian female drug king who deftly used her persona as a regular housewife to rule the streets of Miami. A comment highlighting Blanco’s strong reputation—that even infamous people like Pablo Escobar feared her—opens the series.
The majority of Blanco’s story is told from the viewpoints of other women on screen, including rivals, coworkers, and friends. Some of these characters are pure fiction, while some are just as real as Griselda.
In the show, Blanco travels to the United States in order to provide her sons a better life. Nevertheless, a web of violence and drugs entangles their lives.
The drama series portrays her life story in such a convincing way that Michael Corleone Sepúlveda Blanco, the only survivor of the mother, is suing Netflix and Sofía Vergara for allegedly using her work without permission or acknowledgment.
In the show, Juliana Aidén Martinez plays Miami police officer June Hawkins, who plays a key role in breaking up Griselda’s operations. Like Blanco, Hawkins is shown as constantly being taken for granted. Her bond with her little son becomes strained, her reports are ignored, and her instincts are ignored.
Although there isn’t a single real-life woman associated with Carla, the sex worker-turned-drug mule who was crucial to Griselda’s start in the US, other depictions of Blanco’s ascension imply that several Colombian women were involved in her drug-smuggling schemes. Eva La Dare, in the role of district attorney (Real) A lady identified as the District Attorney (DA) in the show witnesses another having phone sex with the main witness for the case against Blanco.
Even if the depiction on film might not accurately reflect actual occurrences, it is a fact that at least one DA’s office secretary was caught on tape engaging in sexually suggestive phone talks with Blanco’s go-to hitman.
Sofia Vergara’s Makeup Transformation:
After “Modern Family” concluded in 2020, Sofia Vergara departed from her cherished role as Gloria Pritchett. However, she has since returned to the role of dynamic figure, this time in Netflix’s “Griselda,” which debuted on the streaming service this Thursday. Vergara portrays Colombian drug dealer Griselda Blanco in the television series, who amassed a fortune during the 1970s and 1980s Miami drug warfare. Vergara faced a conundrum when getting ready for the show: how do you persuade people that you are a durg trafficker who goes by ominous monikers like “The Black Widow” and “Cocaine Godmother” instead of being a humorous, lighthearted, and immensely popular character?
“I needed to vanish, therefore it was crucial for me to get the look right. In a statement made public by Netflix, Vergara stated, “I wanted no one to think of me or my last role as Gloria Pritchett.” “My amazing hair and makeup design team did a fantastic job creating this character,” the author said. The intention, according to “Griselda” director and executive producer Andrés Baiz, was to give Vergara the impression that she was someone else. “Whatever difference in the nose, hair, or eyebrows that would give Sofía confidence became important.” She wanted to feel different, but not so different that her performance was overshadowed by her prosthetics or makeup. Baiz stated that it had to be subdued.
The heads of Vergara’s beauty team, which included hairstylist Kelly Kline and makeup artist Todd McIntosh, collaborated closely with Griselda Nogaro and Dennis Parker to develop the character’s appearance.
McIntosh clarified, “It’s all about taking her really exotic face and making it into an average face.” Sofía’s gorgeous eyebrows are one of her distinguishing qualities. Instead of them, she desired to have that late-1970s, tweezed-out appearance. She therefore has adhesive-attached artificial eyebrows over her prosthetic eyebrow covers. She also has a prosthetic nose that covers up her adorable and lovely nose, and a plate of teeth that is slightly uneven, crooked, and discolored. She smokes during the entire performance, which causes us to yellow her bottom teeth even more.
McIntosh claims that Vergara needed approximately 1.5 hours to do her cosmetics every day before shooting. Kline claimed, “Every time we attempted to make her hair bigger or more precisely defined, it just made her look too beautiful.” Therefore, all of her hairstyles are smaller and flatter than they should be to give the impression that she is Sofía rather than just Sofía wearing a wig. In real life with Sofía, it’s all about the clothing, the glitter, and the hair, but in the show, it’s not about the hair. This has nothing to do with makeup or hair, or anything at all. The tale is what matters, and it’s amazing.
Everyone on the set was impressed by Vergara’s change, even Ingrid Escajeda, the showrunner. “I remember thinking as I left the set on my first day there, ‘Wow, that’s Griselda.'” And Sofía’s inherent charm was visible through the prosthetics, she added.
Interest in Vergara’s cosmetic makeover has grown throughout the “Griselda” promotional tour. On Wednesday, the actress discussed the procedure with the singer-turned-TV host on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Clarkson remarked, “It seems like they just changed your nose.” Vergara said that it took her “hours” to make the change. “They severely damaged me! Teeth were the cause. It was a wig. It was the nose. From this point on, it was all plastic,” Vergara remarked. “It probably took time, but the slight change completely changed your being,” Clarkson continued. They did a fantastic job; everything looks flawless.
Griselda is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
